What are digital X-rays?

Digital X-rays, or digital imaging, sends the image directly to a computer where it can be viewed on screen and saved. This type of X-ray skips the waiting time; other types of X-rays require the film to be developed in a dark room. Digital X-rays send the image to the screen in just a few seconds. The image can then be enlarged and enhanced, making it easier for our dentists to show you any problems in your smile. Digital X-rays also use less radiation than traditional X-rays. Drs. Howard and Howard are pleased to utilize digital radiography in Encino, California, to make certain that your visit to our office is comfortable, safe, and efficient.

Our dentists use digital X-rays to identify dental issues like:

  • Decay between teeth
  • Abnormal development
  • Improper tooth root positions
  • Cysts and abscesses
  • Fractures in fillings
  • Tumors
  • Tooth nerve infection
  • Bone loss

At The Dental Office of Encino, our dentists also use digital X-rays to digitally compare current radiographs with previous ones. This technique, called subtraction radiography, subtracts everything that is the same between the two images out of the image. This leaves an image of only the part that is different. In this way, Drs. Howard and Howard can see the minutest changes that may not have been detected by the naked eye.

We welcome you to call The Dental Office of Encino today to learn more about how our staff uses digital X-rays.
