What are veneers?
Veneers are thin, custom-made shells constructed of tooth-colored materials. Veneers are made to cover the front of your teeth to correct problems like stains, chips, or crooked teeth. Veneers are made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Both materials have advantages. Porcelain veneers can resist stains better than resin, and they also mimic the light-reflecting properties of natural teeth. However, resin veneers are thinner and therefore require the removal of less of the tooth’s surface.
To prepare your tooth for a veneer, Drs. Howard and Howard remove about ½ millimeter of enamel from the front of your tooth. Then our skilled dentists will make an impression of your tooth for the construction of the veneer. Before bonding, our dentists will check the fit of the veneer and make any adjustments necessary. Your tooth will then be cleaned, polished, and etched. A special cement will be used to attach the veneer to your tooth, and then a special light will be used to harden the cement. Lastly, our dentists will check your bite and make any needed adjustments.
